When I was in third grade, I was on my elementary school basketball team. It was an unavoidable venture when I happened to be the tallest eight year-old on the playground. With my gift of height, I was supposed to be a basketball prodigy, but I could never get a handle on my coordination and would always trip up over my own feet. So, I never went on to be a sports star and instead I participated in drama and art as extracurriculars. But, I never got over my obsession with a good pair of sneakers. My middle school years I was fitted in a slick pair of Converse Allstars, or colorful Vans, or Adidas.
I'd like to think that my style has evolved greatly since those days, but getting dressed this morning, I've found that the things I favor are still the same. I like short skirts and shorter dresses, because I feel like a popstar. I like plaid and checkered patterns because it reminds me of my days in elementary school when I had to wear a uniform. I like wearing sneakers because I'm obsessed with athletic chic aesthetics. I can pretend to be Sporty Spice while being unabashedly Posh.
